Michael Chang no longer Peng Shuai’s coach
The Canadian Press reports that the former French Open champion Michael Chang has quit as a coach of Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai. Peng is China’s top-ranked female doubles player along with another Chinese, Li Na. This year at the China Open in Beijing Peng was able to beat former world number ones Martina Hingis and Amelie Mauresmo on her way to the semis.
Chang said he had stepped down because of the time constrains. He is planning to sett up a tennis academy in southern China.
Despite his split with world number 45 Peng, Chang said his relationship with the China Tennis Association (CTA) was “pretty good” and he still hoped to be part of China’s team at the Beijing Olympic Games next August.“China’s been an incredible place for racket sports - ping pong, badminton - the best in the world. Tennis shouldn’t be an exception to that.”
